I think workshops held at the same time as an exhibition are a terrific idea and I'm only surprised that more art societies don't do the same thing.
Last year I attended Felicity House's Pastel Society Workshop and had a very enjoyable time - Felicity is a great tutor. See A pastels workshop with Felicity House for more about this workshop.
This year these are the options
|Friday 9th April||Portrait - Body Language||Ken Paine|
|Saturday 10th April||Sketchbook Adventure||Felicity House|
|Sunday 11th April||Portraits||Roger Dellar|
|Monday 12th April||Colour Profusion Inspired by Images||Eiko Yashimoto|
|Tuesday 13th April||Life Drawing - Basics||Bob Last|
|Wednesday 14th April||Urban Landscapes||John Tookey|
|Friday 16th June||From representation to abstraction||John Ivor Stewart|
Workshops normally run from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch and their normal range of materials. The workshop fees are £45 per day or £40 per day if booking four (with reduced fees for Friends of the Pastel Society)

In addition, on Thursday 8th April 2010 there is a Pastel Society Artist's Demonstration starting at 10.30am. Ann Wilkinson, a popular workshop tutor and prize winning Pastel Society Member, will demonstrate her pastel painting techniques. Free with admission to the Galleries.
