I think workshops held at the same time as an exhibition are a terrific idea and I'm only surprised that more art societies don't do the same thing.
Last year I attended Felicity House's Pastel Society Workshop and had a very enjoyable time - Felicity is a great tutor. See A pastels workshop with Felicity House for more about this workshop.
This year these are the options
Date | Subject | Tutor |
Friday 9th April | Portrait - Body Language | Ken Paine |
Saturday 10th April | Sketchbook Adventure | Felicity House |
Sunday 11th April | Portraits | Roger Dellar |
Monday 12th April | Colour Profusion Inspired by Images | Eiko Yashimoto |
Tuesday 13th April | Life Drawing - Basics | Bob Last |
Wednesday 14th April | Urban Landscapes | John Tookey |
Friday 16th June | From representation to abstraction | John Ivor Stewart |
Workshops normally run from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch and their normal range of materials. The workshop fees are £45 per day or £40 per day if booking four (with reduced fees for Friends of the Pastel Society)
You can book using the booking form, indicating a first and second choice. To obtain a booking form, contact

In addition, on Thursday 8th April 2010 there is a Pastel Society Artist's Demonstration starting at 10.30am. Ann Wilkinson, a popular workshop tutor and prize winning Pastel Society Member, will demonstrate her pastel painting techniques. Free with admission to the Galleries.
