Galleries Magazine - Current Exhibitions

Royal Academy of Arts - Summer Exhibition 2006

I've just discovered the website linked to "Galleries Magazine" which they claim is the largest circulating monthly Art Listings magazine, describing current exhibitions and stock of over 500 commercial and public art galleries, galleries for hire and art services.

The listings of notified exhibitions seem to provide an extremely useful guide to what's on and where. It lists:
Both Artist and Gallery names are listed alphabetically by the first name.

It also lists:Some parts of the site seem to be very partial and I guess these might be listings subject to payment.
  • I looked at a few of the listings of galleries by location and found some notable omissions. For example the Covent Garden/Trafalgar Square area listed the National Gallery but not the National Portrait Gallery which is right next door.
  • the Internet section was far from comprehensive which is surprising given the growing importance of internet links to galleries and dealers operating on-line.
  • the open studios section is very weak and was last updated in August 2006.
  • The Links section is also a 'paid for' listing for individual artists and is not well populated.
However the exhibitions section is useful and I think I'll be consulting this quite a bit.
