Sylvia White trained as an artist but has been involved in making artists rather than paintings for the last 25 years. She established her consultancy firm 'Contemporary Artists' Services' in 1981 and her career since then has involved providing advice to and managing the careers of emerging, mid-career and established artists primarily via the firm and latterly her website also.
You can read:
You can read:
- a recent interview which ARTINFO magazine did with her here. Note particularly her advice for each of the separate groups - emerging, mid-career and established artists.
- her free advice to artists available from her website here. This is a site which has lots of excellent advice which helps to: create awareness of the issues which need to be addessed; answer frequently asked questions and provide tips for how to do it better next time!
- review the services she offers here
Since today's is a business-oriented blog you're also getting a double helping of my latest offerings in the Canary Wharf Sky series which features views of the skies above Canary Wharf (my local hive of business activity) on (top) a late afternoon in February last year and (below) an early morning earlier this month. All I've got to do now is work out the best way of marketing these!

What serendipity! I clicked over here from your question on my blog about whether I'd be putting words about the show or just the image on the invitation postcard for the opening. I didn't know the answer for sure until I read today's entry, followed the link to the Art Advice website, read the information about preparing for a show and voila! I have the answer...yes, there will be text. But I think I'll put the text in the top and bottom margins rather across the image. I really like this series, the combination of sky and weather and time of day make it really interesting and the subject and colors are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI smiled when i read your post Jana - glad to be of help! It's a good site for sound practical advice. Good luck with the show
