I'm very pleased to say that life after lockdown - in terms of visiting the annual art exhibitions of national art societies - is looking brighter as information begins to appear on websites.
Below is a summary of what I've found so far.
Note: Under the UK Government's Roadmap for reopening after lockdown in England:
- STEP 2: Commercial Galleries can reopen (alongside Retail) on 12th April
- STEP 3: Public Museums & Galleries (i.e. primary purpose is NOT retail/trading) can reopen on 17th May
Commercial galleries come under non-essential retail and will therefore be permitted to open from 12 April.
Mall Galleries
Information has started to appear on the Mall Galleries website about when we can expect to start visiting exhibitions in the Galleries again.

The Mall Galleries is the trading arm of the Federation of British Artists and displays their annual selling exhibitions each year - plus the exhibitions of other national art societies.

Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition 2021

This year there is a mini-theme of Childhood, and The RP Award will be presented for the best portrait on this theme. Other awards include The Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture, worth £10,000, and The William Lock Portrait Prize of £20,000

Bankside Gallery
Ever since Coronavirus put normal life on hold, we have all had to adapt to new ways of doing things. During lockdown, some artists of the RE had no access to printmaking presses or their usual way of working and therefore had to find new ways of producing their work.
RWS - They Can't Cancel Spring
The Royal Watercolour Society's Spring Exhibition
- ONLINE EXHIBITION ONLY - all work is for sale unframed

RE Original Prints
This exhibition will be the first to involve the Society's newly elected members for 2021, and will include a variety of printmaking techniques from traditional woodblock methods to digital printmaking.

- Begins Online on 28th April ( by which I take it the Bankside Gallery is hedging its bets until told that Art Galleries can definitely open again)
