Who Painted This #35 - The Answer

Still Life with Coffee Pot (1915)

The Courtauld Gallery, London
Following Roger Fry’s death in 1934, the Courtauld Institute of Art received his collection of twentieth-century pictures,

The connection with a previous post last week was that I referenced Roger Fry as being the curator of the first exhibition of Post-Impressionist Painters in the UK in 2010 - which is mentioned in the review of the new exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

You can read more about the still life on my website Still Life - Resources for Artists.

Who guessed correct?

Who painted this #35? Congratulations to Bernadette Madden who correctly identified the painting inas being "Still life with coffee pot" by Roger Fry.

That banana ripened while some of you were on the trail! :)

Others who also got it right - in order - are:

If you'd like to study how people get the correct answer try studying past challenges which are listed in the Page Who painted this? - at the the top of the Page. Since of the requirements is to say how you found it, you can see the various ways people get to the answer.

Just for the record - anybody who leaves a comment on the page which lists all the "who painted this?" rather than the specific blog post is not counted.  You have been warned!

My wild goose chases this week involved searching botanical flowers insects shells oil painting etc. and finding Balthasar van der Ast
We found it via a very red herring, Mr C thought he detected the beginnings of New York and an island in the background (like one of your earlier ones) so added 19C to painting flowers vase insects images and found an image that looked like it might have been painted by the same artist, went to the page stilllifequickheart first thing that came up on website was Ambrosius Bosschaert so did a search for his work and found it at
1st-art-gallery.com where it is available as a reproduction.
I rounded up the other info on medium and support from wiki

  7. Hello Katherine,
    Painting #36 is:
Bouquet of Flowers on a Ledge by Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder.
It's an oil on coppper from 1619, dimensions: Height: 279.4 mm (11 in). Width: 228.6 mm (9 in).
It resides in Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Carter (M.2003.108.7)
    Currently on public view:
Ahmanson Building, floor 3 MAP IT

First I searched still life with butterfly, then tried painting of flowers in a vase with insects. I found Balthasar Van der Ast. Found out he trained with his brother in law, checked him out and found the painting! It took a while to find this including looking for pastiche paintings :)

The above information was gleaned from a mistaken Google search. I had search another 17-century Dutch still life painter and along with those paintings Bosschaert's still lifes were displayed.
