Some of you will recall that back in May, I did a post about Landscape Artist of the Year Filming 2023: Venues, Dates and Wildcards.
Last month, Storyvault Films were out and about with the Pods around the country filming the next series which will be broadcast in early 2024.
The three venues for filming the six episodes this summer were:
- Liverpool
- Hever Castle in Kent
- Stonehaven on the Aberdeenshire coast in Scotland.
It was really nice to see lots of pics of proper landscapes - both urban and rural - and no country houses or "novel" (I'm being polite) locations!
Lots of excellent photos of the filming of painting Dunnottar Castle by Julie Mary Lawler who lives in Stonehaven |
After the filming has taken place I go looking for evidence it happened on social media!

Semi-Final: Bucklers Hard
From my last post about LAOTY
Bearing in mind that I'm "reading the runes" on this series based on past series, my conclusion is that the final and/or commission will involve water (for definite) and probably a castle too.....and so - we have Bucklers Hard for the semi-final!
You can start practising painting water now. Don't forget to revise the rules on painting shadows and reflections on water - and remember they're not the same thing!
The Buckler's Hard News Page about the semi final |
The grounds of Buckler's Hard village, Shipwright's Cottage, St Mary's Chapel, and The Captain's Table are free for everyone to visit. For those arriving by vehicle, a small parking charge applies.
Here's how to:
- plan a visit
- how to locate Buckler's hard - and get there
- the post code for the sat nav is SO42 7XB.
- train from Waterloo to Brockenhurst - followed by a taxi will get you there (better book one for getting back!)
