Major Art Exhibitions in London in 2014

Today I updated my Page on this blog devoted to Major Art Exhibitions in London to include all those taking place in 2014.

See Major Art Exhibitions in London in 2014 - in the top menu

I'm not going to list them all here - that's what the page is for.  However I will note those I'm looking forward to in a timeline below

NEW Exhibitions in 2014 - my top ten

February 2014

April 2014

  • Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs at Tate Modern. I should imagine this one will be very popular as it's the most comprehensive exhibition of work in this genre!

May 2014

  • Kenneth Clark at Tate Britain - examines Clark’s role as a patron and collector, art historian, public servant and broadcaster, and celebrates his contribution to bringing art in the twentieth century to a more popular audience.

June 2014

  • Colour at the National Gallery (Sainsbury Wing) - an exhibition examining the history of colour in art.

September 2014

  • Constable: The Making of a Master at the V&A - they're keeping quiet about this but here's hoping this is going to be a good one!
  •  Late Turner: Painting Set Free at Tate Britain - the first major exhibition to survey the achievements of the last works of J.M.W. Turner (1775–1851).

October 2014

November 2014
  • Painting Canada 2 at Dulwich Picture Gallery - I loved Painting Canada about Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven and I'm looking forward to seeing the work of Emily Carr - one of Canada’s best loved artists

  2. Nothing like a list of exhibitions to make me more homesick than normal. You get the occasional good exhibition in Houston, Dallas or Fort Worth but they are few and far between. They have to be really good though to justify the 350-400 mile return trip If you are in cowboys and bluebonnets, you are in luck :(

  3. I do indeed realise how lucky I am living in London.

However I know a fair few people who come up for the day from the country and make a point of seeing about three exhibitions on one day!

  7. Hi Katerine

just lucky for us bloggers we have such a good point of contact for some good reviews. As you can imagine any trip to the UK, but especially London, is crammed with visiting exhibitions. Have tried to do the same in France but with all their weird days off, I often find that I am in a town the gallery is closed! And August in France is very hit or miss with the summer month off which starts in the middle of July and end the first week in Sept, it seems.
Should add, there are plenty of good artists in central TX (where I live) but it can be difficult to find them as the day visit can mean a 60 mile trip to the nearest town.
Looking forward to review your reviews and seeing the exhibitions by proxy
