- Haidee-Jo Summers (Haidee-Jo Summers artist - ma vie en couleurs) , winner of the The Painting Plein Air Plus Prize 2012 in the Making A Mark Awards at the end of last month - was out in the snow this weekend and painting children having fun in the snow - see
Sledgers in the snow She even had time to make a video of herself painting plein air in the snow. Look at all that colour on her palette! (I have it on good authority straight from Haidee that the most popular sled colour is red!)

- I really liked Footprints in the Snow. a lot - it's a good advert for "the simpler the better". You can see this painting by Nigel Fletcher on Painting Adventures in the Limousin
- Vivien Blackburn (Painting Prints and Stuff) has not stopped sketching on her iPad since she got it! Last week she was sketching a snow scene from memory Snow and late afternoon light. iPad painting
- I'm intrigued by Lin Frye's "Krylon Acrylic White Webbing" in SNOW!!!! But not quite like this ... in View from the Oak so I googled it and now I know!
- Snow Shadows by Nel Jansen is Nel's Everday Painting
- Duane Keiser (a painting a day) painted his First Snow, 1/17/2013 which seems to be a painting of snow at dusk or in the dark.
- The Guardian Art and Design section has an art challenge and asks people to Share your art: readers' winter wonderlands which has a slideshow of some interesting interpretations of winter.
- Taryn Day (The Art Room) has a poll on her blog to vote for two favourite Winter Paintings - by contemporary painters and by artists of the past. There's some good choices - including on of my favourites - by Gustave Caillebotte. I took a photograph of it in the Musee d'Orsay in 2009 - see below.

- Urban Sketchers London were at Bankside and Tate Modern - but the consensus was it was too cold to hang around outside in the snow and freezing cold when they could hang around in the cavernous spaces in the Turbine Hall or Tanks of the former Bankside Power Station which houses Tate Modern instead. We did get one snow covered bush by Cat Andrew!
- Sketchcrawl North (Facebook Group) were out and about in Sheffield. Lynne Chapman (An Illustrator's Life For Me!) posted about her experience of the 38th International SketchCrawl - slurping, munching & sketching our way around Sheffield City Centre
- These are the Urban Sketchers NYC who were in 42nd street - Worldwide Sketch Crawl 38
- It was a very fishy story in SketchCrawl Istanbul
- Urban Sketchers Midwest were at Union Station in Kansas City - see 38th International Sketchcrawl, KCMO
Landscape
- I've started a series of paintings about when they used to paint the Thames when it froze - this is the first post - The Frozen Thames - looking like the Arctic - which turned into a bit of detective story!
- The Fine Art strand of We are OCA comments on landscape painting in the UK Deeply unfashionable, but look again… which has been executed in watercolour and specifically the two exhibitions in London - ‘Constable, Gainsborough and Turner and the Making of Landscape’ at the Royal Academy and ‘Cotman in Normandy’ at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

- The Guardian has an article about Andy Warhol's 300 Unseen Drawings which were found by Germany gallery owner Daniel Blau in storage. They are published in an exhibition catalogue edited by Blau and are currently being exhibited at the Louisiana museum in Denmark (January 8 - February 21, 2013) and then later in Holland. They will then be available to buy.

- Inspirational Sunderland: Grayson Perry's Tribute To Wearside Taste - The Vanity of Small Differences - Inspired by William Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress - will go on exhibition at the Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens in Wearside in Summer 2013, followed by Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds - followed by an International Tour. The tapestries chart the class journey made by young Tim Rakewell, based on Perry's encounters in Sunderland, Tunbridge Wells and The Cotswolds while making the television series. Two works in the series of tapestries were inspired by Sunderland, 'The Adoration of the Cage Fighters' and 'The Agony in the Car Park'.

I am amazed at how much art information you find. A great post with lots of information. Love that winter painting done by Caillebotte...has a strong Victorian air to it that I love, a bit of an Industrial Revolution era sense.
