  1. http://williamwray.blogspot.com/search?q=backdoor

I hope this link connects to William Wray's Backdoor 24x24. It isn't a conventional link style, but I am over-focused on links today.

It was fun to review Wray's year of posts, and pick this one as my favorite. Then I read his entry, and apparently he found it to be a favorite, too. The stunning sunlight keys up the painting, and yet the composition is the thing, not just the element of sun.

Mr. Wray sees beauty in the fundamental things of his southern California land and cityscapes. This particular painting shines in that regard - it fulfills his goals of painting really good (great) scenes so well balanced and yet walking at the edge of our ideas of what art should represent.

  2. I would like to nominate my recent painting 'Old Lighthouse' which was shown on my blog http://annawilsonpatterson.blogspot.com/2011/10/old-lighthouse.html

I have been working as an artist since 2007 and blogging at www.annawilsonpatterson.blogspot .com since 2009. For the past two years I have been painting a specific part of the Sussex Coastline between Hastings and Dungeness, inspired by the vistas of sky, shingle and sea, punctuated by fishing shacks, boats and huts.

I have been painting using water based oils on 20cm square panels, seeking to capture the suggestion of the landscape and the features that remain in my memory. The Old Lighthouse is my first painting to achieve this.

    Kind regards
    Anna

  4. I would like to nominate my own painting, an oil on linen canvas called 'School Run'. This was shown on my blog:

    http://dorset-beautystoriesart.blogspot.com/2011/12/school-run-view-i-love-and-see-every.html

This view is special to me. I see it four times a day in term time when I transport the children back and forth to school and nursery. It was this view that convinced me a childhood in Dorset, surrounded by beautiful countryside was the best childhood I could possibly give the children. This view made me stay in the UK instead of returning to expatriate life.

This painting is OIL on canvas
    It measures 20" x 30"

    Kind regards,
    Annika

  5. Hi Katherine, can I nominate my painting: Last Light at http://cotswoldsketchbook.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

I have painted this pond several times and always find it provides new and exciting opportunities. This image is 7.5" x 5.5" oil on board.

  6. Katherine, I have read the info but can't see whether you are allowing more than one nomination from the artist, I may be wrong but I would also like to nominate 'Aups in Provence' :at http://cotswoldsketchbook.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html the date is 4/4/11. It's a watercolour and measures 18" x 13"

I love this little town and have stayed there often, I love the buzz of the place and the town isn't too big and still retains it's Provencal rural roots. The markets, as so often in this area are superb and provide brilliant subject matter.

  7. I'm only letting artists nominate one of their works. However an artist can be nominated twice for different works so long as these nominations come from two different art bloggers

  8. I am sorely disappointed that I missed nominating Deborah Paris for the MAM Landscape Award since the closing date was Dec. 24, but I do want to recognize her nonetheless. Had I been on the ball these past few weeks, her name would have made it under the deadline.

The painting I should have nominated is "Morning Light," oil, 24" x 30". The link is http://deborahparis.com/3/GalleryMain.asp?GalleryID=102891&AKey=LCEK6WCL

This work speaks of Deborah's love of the wooded landscape where she lives in Texas. Deborah not only renders the landscape itself true to the area, but she does it with poetry and grace.

So, for anyone who sees this comment, it is worth the time to check out this landscape.
