POLL: Do you price your art on your website / blog?

How do you identify the price for your artwork?  This month the Making A Mark Poll is going to look at the tricky issue of pricing art on a website or blog.

People vary a lot in the approach they choose to adopt towards raising what is sometimes seen as the unsavoury topic of money and being paid for your artwork.

Quite a few people don't want prices anywhere near their art.  Others are very much of the opinion that if you don't tell people what its price is you can't expect people to indicate they'd like to buy your art.

This month I'm as interested to hear your reasoning behind the approach you feel most comfortable with as to learn whether and where you price your work.

Also we'd all love to hear any advice or tips you may have about how to make pricing artwork more effective.

Do you price your art on your website / blog?

The options are:
  • Yes - website and blog
  • Yes - website only
  • Yes - blog only
  • No - priced in online auction site only
  • No - priced on other online sites only
  • No - priced in B&M galleries only
  • No
You can find the Making A Mark Opinion Poll for May in the right hand column - just above the graphic of avatars re Bloggers who follow this blog.

The poll closes on 31st May and the result will be reported later that day.

    1. Really interesting poll, it is such a difficult thing! I shall be interested to see the results although I do think it rather depends on who your market is. Wonderful blog by the way, really enjoy reading it- thank you :-)

    3. Yes I price my artwork on both my blogs.

On my newer Niels Henriksen Artwork blog (nielsp.ca) I prices for my fine-art prints. It took at little longer to figure out how to set up each print page correctly. I've yet to upload the paintings. This is my own site and therefore completely customizable site. It will take time to build up a fan base and content needs to be different form the other site.

On my Camera World blog, which is much older, I don't sell directly but I have links to photo for-sale sites. This site gets good traffic but belongs to a blog hosting company and therefore I don’t think its a long term solution since customization will be limited.
I do think its important to reach audiences through as many display channels as possible but there also needs to be a unified pricing strategy from web to galleries or even fairs.

    4. No, I don't price on my website or blog. One of my representing galleries does display prices, though.
My reasoning is that I slightly raise my prices yearly or every 18 months, and I don't want to update all of the prices on my site and blog. Nor do I want to leave old prices lying around online.
