Polly Paused - version 2

Polly Paused - version 2
14" x 11 coloured pencil on black Stonehenge paper
copyright Katherine Tyrrell

I've continued to work on the picture of Polly, mainly to see how much saturation I can get on the black Stonhenge before I start to lose the surface texture.

I like this version better - but some lemon got in there and needs to come out in the final version. I don't think I'm going to get the impact I want on this paper in relation to saturation and subtlety and need to try a different surface - maybe just a different colour of Stonehenge? Maybe on some Art Spectrum colourfix or Amperdsand pastelbord? We shall see.........

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's post - especially all the ones saying that this will be a pose recognised by cat lovers. That's my target audience for this one as the SOFA exhibition has a very large mailing list and lots of people who visit (and buy) who adore cats!

All I need to do now is work out what support to do this on and what the next three are going to be about!

  3. Stunning, Katherine. I can see why the light attracted you. It is both painterly and authentic at the same time. Even with the concerns you have about it - it looks wonderful to me and I'm sure it will be a winner.

  4. Katherine I really like it. I can't see how you do it tho. All those pencil strokes look like they are wildly put on going in all different directions, but they go together and just look perfect.

  7. Wow - converting people to cats is better than I could have hoped!

Robyn - I'm so sorry to have missed you in the last post and thanks for your comment. I need to find something of mine you don't like I think! ;)

  8. I don't know about the need for saturation here, but I do know about subtlety and I think you've got that in spades--- which is perfect for this piece. And, oh, the figure of the cat is sublime, Katherine. Leave it alone---it couldn't be better!
